University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute Assistant Professor of Oncologic Sciences Dr. Lalita Shevde-Samant recently received the first Mayer Mitchell Annual Award for Excellence in Cancer Research at a reception at the MCI in Midtown Mobile.

Arlene Mitchell, USA trustee and philanthropist, established the award in memory of her late husband Mayer, a Mobile businessman, philanthropist and longtime USA trustee.

The unrestricted award can be used for any research purpose, other than salary enhancement.

Dr. Shevde-Samant is an internationally known researcher in the area of breast cancer and melanoma.
