The 13 contestants for the 2011 Miss University of South Alabama Scholarship Program will compete for more than $5,000 in scholarship money.

“South Alabama’s Got Talent” is the theme for this year’s event to be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 22 at the USA John W. Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. General admission is $5, and the souvenir program booklet is $5.

“The scholarship program will afford the winner and runner-ups with an opportunity to earn money to help pay for their educational expenses while attending USA,” said Dr. J. David Stearns, associate vice president for enrollment services at the University. “This scholarship program also allows the young women to showcase their talent, evening gown, swimsuit and interview skills.”

This scholarship program is a preliminary to the 2011 Miss Alabama and Miss America Pageants.
