USA to Host Lecture with Dr. Sikivu Hutchinson

Dr. Sikivu Hutchinson

The University of South Alabama Gender Studies, Feminists for Progress and the Secular Student Alliance present an evening lecture with Dr. Sikivu Hutchinson, writer and intergroup specialist for the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission. She will speak on “Beyond Kumbaya: Godless Morality in the Post –racial Age,” on Thursday, April 28, at 6 p.m. in the Library Auditorium with a reception immediately following the event. The event is free and open to the public.

Hutchinson earned her doctorate in performance studies from New York University and has taught women’s studies cultural studies, urban studies and education at the University of California, Los Angeles, the California Institute of the Arts and Western Washington University.

She is also the author of “Imagining Transit: Race, Gender, and Transportation Politics in Los Angles. Hutchinson has published fiction, essays and critical theory in Social Text, California English, Black Agenda Report and American Atheist Magazine. She is the author of the novel “Dealey” and “Moral Combat: Black Atheists, Gender Politics and the Values Wars.”

She is a frequent contributor to RichardDawkins.net and the New Humanist Blog, editor of blackfemlens.org and a commentator for Pacifica stations KPFK Los Angeles and WBAI NY’s Women’s Collective.
