USA to Host ArtWalk Poetry Sessions

The University of South Alabama and City of Mobile will host ArtWalk Poetry Sessions to begin at 11 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 11, at Moulton Tower and Alumni Plaza on the USA campus. This event is one of five scheduled poetry sessions. All events are free and open to the public.

The poetry sessions, which will include readings by USA students and faculty, were organized by Alabama Poet Laureate Dr. Sue Walker and Stokes Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing at USA, and poet Dr. Robert Gray, faculty development services manager for USA’s Innovation in Learning Center. Both Walker and Gray will present their poetry. Gray said this event was created to celebrate poetry and give it a larger profile in Mobile.

The ArtWalk Poetry Sessions will also feature published and award-winning poets such as Melissa Dickson of Newnan, Ga.; Barry Marks of Birmingham; Ben Lowenkron; Eric Elliott and Vincent Cellucci, all of Baton Rouge, La.

A total of 35 poets will participate in the ArtWalk Poetry Sessions to be held at various locations around Mobile:

  • 3 p.m., Satori Coffee House, 5460 Old Shell Road (Dr. Sue Walker will read poetry.)
  • 5 p.m., The Blind Mule, 57 North Claiborne Street (Dr. Sue Walker will read poetry.)
  • 7 p.m., Cathedral Square, Dauphin Street (Dr. Robert Gray will read poetry.)
  • 9 p.m., Open Mic at Serda’s Coffee, 3 South Royal Street
