Renowned Cancer Expert Visits USA

 

Dr. Bruce Chabner, a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and director of clinical research at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, recently visited the University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute and USA College of Medicine as part of the Distinguished Scientists Seminar Program.

Chabner’s award-winning career in cancer research includes extensive experience in the field of cancer drug discovery and development. He joined the National Cancer Institute in 1971 and enjoyed a 24-year career there, which included leadership roles including director of the division of cancer treatment for 13 years. While at NCI, he worked with Dr. Michael Boyd, USAMCI Director and Abraham Mitchell Chair. Chabner also mentored and worked with Dr. Eddie Reed, USAMCI clinical director and Point Clear Charities Chair and Abraham Mitchell Distinguished Investigator.

Chabner toured the USAMCI and delivered a lecture to doctors and researchers there before coming to campus to lecture the medical students. His talk on campus was entitled, “Clinical Phase I Trials in Cancer Guided by Molecular Profiling.”
