The University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute recently hosted a reception in honor of Dr. Bart Barlogie, Mayor Sam Jones' oncologist from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Barlogie, an internationally recognized leader in myeloma research and treatment, treated Jones when Jones was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Jones is now in remission from the disease. Jones has served as a University trustee since 2001.

Dr. Bart Barlogie was invited to Mobile by Mayor Sam Jones and the faculty of the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute to lecture as part of the USA College of Medicine Distingushed Scientist Seminar Series and discuss collaborations with USA Mitchell Cancer Institute faculty.  While in town, Barlogie lectured to physicians and medical students at the USA College of Medicine.
