One of the most beloved faculty members in the Department of Chemistry was Dr. Sidney Young, who passed away in 2004. In 2005, the ACS Student Affiliates, in coordination with the Chemistry Department, Alpha Epsilon Delta, and the SGA, held a memorial ceremony. At that time, a memorial camellia bush and plaque were unveiled, along with the picnic table that now sits on the north side of the Chemistry Building.
