Program Philosophy














 Program Overview:

The Combined Clinical & Counseling Psychology (CCP) Doctoral Program is an innovative doctoral psychology program that offers training in the areas of Clinical and Counseling Psychology. The CCP program is jointly administered by the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts & Sciences as well as the Department of Professional Studies in the College of Education at the University of South Alabama. USA is located in Mobile, AL in the central gulf coast region. Mobile is a diverse metropolitan area of approximately 500,000 people. USA is a university of 14,500 students, and is the fastest growing university in the state of Alabama.




Program Mission:

The Clinical and Counseling Psychology program will graduate doctorates trained to provide the most effective types of psychological care for individuals, families, and communities. These doctorates will have a set of competencies that will also enable them to work successfully with a variety of professionals to promote health and treat mental disorders. Our graduates might be employed to conduct research in community agencies, health organizations, schools, and industry (pharmaceutical, etc) as well as in traditional academic settings.

The program's training philosophy combines an asset-strength model from Counseling Psychology with a wellness/health psychology model from Clinical Psychology. Graduates will be comfortable providing care in a variety of settings including medical, traditional mental health settings, schools, and various community-based agencies. Additionally, graduates will provide Clinical and Counseling psychological services at multiple levels, including direct provision of services to clients, supervision of services, and the development, management, and evaluation of services using evidence-based interventions models.
