Artistic Director: Alabama Contemporary Dance

Candice Christakos holds a B.A. in Dance from the University of Maryland, an M.A. in Dance Education from Teachers College Columbia University, and is a Certified Movement Analyst from the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies. Christakos served as guest artist for the Phyllis Lamhut Dance Company and featured soloist for Marc Franko’s NOVANTIGUA. Choreographic achievements include three fellowships from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, annual production of her works in New York City, and numerous other projects and commissions. While in Vermont, she and her husband Don Prosch developed Dance Process, an inter-generational community program whose company served as Touring Artist for the Vermont Council on the Arts. She has taught at Springfield College, Massachusetts; University of Hartford, Connecticut; and is currently adjunct faculty at the University of South Alabama.

USA’s Minor in Theatre with a concentration in dance provides students a broad overview of the field of dance. Course content can be applied to traditional and non-traditional stage performance, choreographic process, recreational therapy, and dance education. DRA Dance Technique classes are taught in Alabama Contemporary Dance’s spacious studio located in the heart of the downtown Mobile’s growing arts district. This unique partnership offers minors opportunities for artistic collaboration and special projects in dance.
