T. Fulton Burns
Fulton Burns is the Director of Acting & Performance at the University of South Alabama’s (USA) Department of Dramatic Arts. Prior to his arrival at USA he instructed at The University of Montana and Illinois College. He has performed as a guest artist/instructor at The University of Nevada Las Vegas, Columbia College, the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts along with other schools across the United States.  He attended Winthrop University where he earned his BA in Theatre and completed his graduate work (MFA) at Western Illinois University (WIU) specializing in Directing for the Stage. His directing credits include, but are not limited to, The Complete Works of WLLM SHKSPR: abridged, The Serpent, and Picasso at the Lapin Agile.  Fulton has also received the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival’s Certificate of Merit for his work as a director on Amadeus at WIU and Anything Goes at USA.
Fulton began his theatre career as a dancer in the Southeast in both ballet and modern dance with companies like Charleston Ballet Theater and Greenville Ballet to name a few. Since this time he has furthered his movement training to include physical comedy, mask work, and stage combat.
Burns is a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD) and a member since 2000 in addition to being an award winning Advanced Actor Combatant recognized in all eight weapons that the organization has to offer.  He is also an Instructor with the Dueling Arts International (DAI) making USA one of only 10 schools in the United States to offer Certificate Tests in both organizations (SAFD & DAI).  Fulton’s fight director work has included choreographed fights for Extremeties, Othello, The Beaux Stratagem, Romeo and Juliet, The Illusion, Man of La Mancha & Hamlet among others.
Also, prior to arriving at the USA Department of Dramatic Arts, Burns worked professionally with Moises Kaufman as an assistant director, along with the Living Theatre and Cirque du Soleil’s production of Quidam.
