Dr. Dhawan is Professor of Chemical Engineering with 26 years of teaching experience.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi and is a registered professional engineer in Canada.  He served in the chemical process industry for eight years before joining the Chemical Engineering Department in 1983.

Dr. Dhawan specializes in the area of process design and safety and development work with utilization of coal and polymeric waste material.  He was granted a U.S. Patent on 'Method of Reclaiming Scrap Vulcanized Rubber Using Supercritical Fluids'.

Dr. Dhawan has worked for Navy Technology Center for Safety and Survivability on the development of a fuel equivalence ratio meter and teaches a graduate course in Chemical Process Safety and Design methods for calculation of Fire & Explosion Hazards. He has conducted research with Alabama coals in liquefaction and conducted techno-economic studies on coals for the Energy Mines and Resources Branch of the Govt. of Canada.

Dr. Dhawan has done consulting work for UOP, CLEER (Center for Legislative Energy & Environmental Research) and Orion Engineering Company.
