My research focuses on the application of systems engineering tools to problems in engineering and biology.  The overall research goal is to develop a comprehensive methodology for optimal operation of dynamic systems using automation principles.  Current applications include microreactors for portable power and optimal dose design for cancer therapy.

Another research area is in the development of innovative strategies for engineering education. The overall research goal is to develop an effective strategy that utilizes electronic learning tools in conjunction with class room lectures to enhance teaching.

I have received funding from the National Science Foundation, Alabama Space Grant Consortium, Army Research Labs, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, as well the chemical industry for my research.
