Advising
Dates The next advising will be
in the schedule of

PLAN AHEAD- Please
fill out the advising form listing the courses in which you are
enrolled in this semester and those you intend to be enrolled in for the next
two semesters. Bring this completed form with
you to your advising appointment. Course schedules for the next term
are available in the Administration Building and on the internet at www.southalabama.edu.
At advising, be sure the original advising form is given to the secretary so
that your advising block can be removed.
PREREQUISITES - It is the student’s responsibility to be familiar with the
curriculum and prerequisites for the courses they are taking. The PAWS
system will not allow you to sign up for courses for which you do not have the
prerequisites
ADDRESS CHANGE
- If you have moved or your local address is not correct, please go
to personal section in PAWS and make corrections. The same goes for your
personal email address. Current email addresses are
necessary because future correspondence such as newsletters and notices will be
sent by email.
Web registration. You will need to
get online to find out when you can register on PAWS on the web (time ticket).
Postcards to remind you will not be sent in the future.
Make your advising more productive by planning your courses several
semesters ahead. If cooping or
working, then specific conflicts or needs can be discussed with your advisor.
(PCS) All departments in the College of
Engineering require Professional Component Standing (PCS) for all 300- and
400-level courses. PCS is awarded when the student does the following:
1.
Completes a required set of fundamental courses:
EH 101 and EH 102 (English Composition); MA 125 and MA 126 (Calculus I
and II); CH 131 (Chemistry I).
2.
Has at least a 2.00 engineering GPA; and has at least
a 2.00 GPA overall at the University of South Alabama.
Students
who fail to maintain PCS criteria will lose PCS and may be required to take or
repeat appropriate courses as specified by the department chair and/or advisor
to correct their deficiencies and may not be permitted to continue in the 300-
and 400-level engineering courses.
Students
should also be aware that all 100-level courses must be completed before
300-level courses can be taken and all 200-level courses must be completed
before 400-level courses can be approve.
