"When and how do I see my
advisor"?"
Appointments will be made during the two-week
advising period near the end of the semester.
You will receive an email or letter about the
next advising period but it is your
responsibility to call or come by the office and
make an appointment. In the spring, advising can
be requested for summer or fall semester;
whichever is the one you plan to attend next.
"What do I want the Advisor to do for
me?"
Answer, "Guide me in choosing the courses
that I need to take to make progress toward my
degree in a timely fashion." We would very
much like to accommodate your wishes. But we
need HELP. Your help. We need to know more than
the courses you took last quarter and the
courses you propose to take in the next quarter.
We need to know ALL of the courses you took.
Hence, we hope you will be patient with us in
our effort to be of as much help to you as
possible.
To prepare for your advising appointment
1. Have a copy of the version of the current
curriculum flow chart that you are using. Copies
of the curriculum flow chart, advising form and
other planning aids are available in the
Mechanical Engineering office and most are
available on this web site.
2. Highlight or mark all courses you have
already taken AND PASSED.
3. Based upon the information you generated, IN
PENCIL, fill out the advising form completely
including your current courses being taken and
your proposed courses for the next semester. Be
sure to check all prerequisites (not all are
listed on the flow chart). We also encourage you
to plan ahead as to what you will be taking in
the future.
4. See your assigned advisor who will verify
your proposed courses or suggest alternative
course offerings.
"What if I have problems with my
schedule after advising or during telephone/web
registration?"
Call the office and we will try to get your
questions answered quickly. If you are not sure
about your schedule, don't finalize. If you
finalize, you will have to attend add/drop the
third day of classes to make any changes.
If an engineering class is closed, we will do
our best to open it. The only restricted class
in ME is Engineering Drawing that is restricted
by the number of computers.
If a math, chemistry or other class is closed,
it would be best to call that department and see
if there is a waiting list. It is important to
take a math course every semester until you have
completed all of them. If the classes are all
closed, call the me office for possible advise
on alternative classes you could take.
Remember that you advisor is available at any
time during the semester if you have other
questions or problems you wish advise on. Just
check on posted office hours and come by at any
time.
Contacting your advisor
Be sure to check with your assigned advisor at
pre-advising EVERY semester. Until you are
advised and your block cleared you cannot
register on the telephone or on the web.
If you are not sure who your advisor is, please
contact the Mechanical Engineering Secretary at
(334) 460-6168 or drop by the office in room 212
in the Engineering Classroom Building.
