Course Objective: This is an introductory course designed
to provide the student with a better understanding of our world.
Through participation in class, the student is expected to learn the significance
of historical events that have transpired in the course of the development
of Western Civilization. As part of this learning process, the student
should improve his\her analytical skills and skills of communication- both
written and verbal.

Grading Scale: Final grades are based upon the accumulation of points received on the quizzes and on the essay/short answer exams (A: 270-300, B: 240-269, C: 210-239, D: 180-209, F: 0-179). Seven quizzes will be given. The top five grades on the quizzes will be used in the determination of semester grades. No make-up quizzes will be given. You may not take a quiz and then leave prior to the completion of class. In such a case, the quiz will not be graded. The mid-term and the final will be composed of short answer questions and essays, and the quizzes will consist of objective questions. Essays and short answer questions will be graded on the basis of historical clarity and historical accuracy.
Attendance Policy: Regular attendance is expected.

Quizzes on topics covered will be given on the following dates:
09/08 (Wed.), 09/20, 10/04, 11/01, 11/15, 11/22, 12/06.
The mid-term examination will be given on 10/18, and the final examination will be given on 12/13.
