Honors Program




Students admitted to the USA Honors Program each spring may be eligible to receive a four-year Frederick P. Whiddon Scholarship in the amount below. Frederick P. Whiddon Scholarships are awarded only to U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents of the United States. Scholarships may be applied to tuition, fees, on-campus room and board, and books and supplies purchased at the university bookstore. Scholarships apply to the academic year and summer term (if a balance remains). Students accepted into the Honors Program at other times of the academic year are eligible to apply for scholarships in the next spring application period. 

NOTE: As with all university scholarships, recipients whose GPA falls below 3.0 will have their scholarships terminated.

Honors Scholarship Application Required 

The University of South Alabama Honors Program offers a curriculum of interdisciplinary excellence dsigned to stimulate analytical and critical thinking of exceptionally qualified and highly motivated students.  In this effort, the USA Honors Program challenges students with scholarly activities, creative activities, exposes them to cultural enrichment and requires them to engage in community service.

  • Be a U. S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be a 2014 high school graduate
  • Apply for admission to the University of South Alabama
  • Request official ACT or SAT scores be sent directly to the USA Office of Admissions
  • Request official high school transcript be mailed to the Office of Admissions directly from the high school showing grades through the junior year
  • Complete application for Honors Program
  • Complete above procedures by December 6, 2013 for first consideration

Please note:  The Honors Program is extremely competitive.  If you are awarded a Presidential Scholarship and subsequently awarded an Honors Scholarship, then your previously awarded USA scholarship will be voided.
