Peer Advisors
Position Announcement
 
Peer Advisors serve as resources and advisors for freshmen students living in the the residence halls.  Peer Advisors will be selected on the basis of a superior attitude toward the University of South Alabama and the Department of Housing, and the willingness to be committed to the success of their group of new USA students.  Each Peer Advisor will be responsible for a group of freshmen students.
 

Information Meetings for the 2008-09 Peer Advisor positions are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, February 6, 6:00 p.m. in the Epsilon 1 TV Room and on Thursday, February 7, 6:00 p.m. in the Delta Commons. Interested students should attend one of these meetings.  Questions concerning the meetings should be sent to fye-residencelife@usouthal.edu.

 

Qualifications
 
   (1) 2.50 cumulative G.P.A.
   (2) 12.0 semester hours (completed at end of Fall Semester '07)
   (3) Full-time student status (12 semester hours)
   (4) Residence hall experience and/or campus involvement preferred

Basic Job Requirements
 
   - Commit for the entire academic year - Fall and Spring Semesters.
   - Live in Epsilon, Beta, Gamma, or Delta - Fall and Spring Semesters.
   - Be available and accessible to freshmen in their group.
   - Provide consistent leadership in academic support through role modeling and encouragement.
   - Offer peer counseling to freshmen in their section on personal, academic, and social concerns.
   - Plan outings or activities for their freshmen, such as sporting events, movies, and concerns.
   - Meet with their students for one meal a week in the cafeteria.
   - Conduct an interview with each student at the beginning and end of each semester.
   - Return to campus one week prior to Fall Check-In and as scheduled for subsequent semesters.
   - Be available for initial and on-going staff training activities.
   - Agree not to have outside employment or other time-consuming activities, which are not approved each        semester (not to exceed 20 hours per week.)
   - Attend staff meetings as scheduled and complete reports as assigned.
   - Recognize that the Peer Advisor position is your primary out-of-class obligation.

Compensation
 
   - Room rent (one bed space in double room) Roommate preferences will be honored with approval from         Housing.
