Deadline has been extended to February 26. Applications for Resident Advisor are now available on-line. See the downloadable RA application is available at the bottom of this page. Applications are due in one of the Area Offices: Beta-Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, and Greek by 5:00 p.m. or at the 7:00 p.m. RA Candidates Meeting in the Beta/Gamma Commons on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. All qualified candidates, including freshmen, will be contacted for an interview. All interested students should attend the Candidates Meeting on February 26.
 

Qualifications
 
   (1) Minimum of 2.50 cumulative G.P.A.
   (2) 32.0 semester hours completed by end of Spring '08 - required
   (3) Junior status (64.0 semester hours) or above beginning Fall '08 - preferred
   (4) Full-time student (12 semester hours)
   (5) On-campus hall living experience - required

Additional Requirements
 
   - Be willing to commit for the entire academic year - Fall and Spring semesters
   - Return to campus 10 days prior to Fall Check-In and as scheduled for subsequent semesters
   - Remain on campus after semester exams for job duties
   - Take on-duty responsibilities during semester breaks and holidays as scheduled
   - Agree not to have outside employment or other time-consuming activities that are
     not approved each semester (not to exceed 15 hours per week)
   - Be able to attend weekly staff meetings as scheduled
   - Recognize that the RA position is your primary out-of-class obligation
   - Be available for initial and on-going staff training activities

Basic Job Description
 
An RA is the student staff member for a section (building, floor, etc.) of a residence hall area.  The major responsibilities of the RA include:  to establish and maintain a residential environment which is conducive to the academic and personal growth of the residents; maintain order; assist in the disciplinary procedure as necessary; implement University and Housing policies; promote community; and assist in matters of student welfare and safety.

Specific Duties Include
 
   - Administer the procedures and policies of the Department of Housing
   - Advise and counsel residents
   - Manage and/or assist with emergency situations
   - Investigate maintenance problems and handle minor maintenance problems
   - Take on-call duty as scheduled during the semester
   - Take on-call duty for holidays and/or semester breaks as scheduled
   - Be in your assigned building a minimum of four (4) hours between 6:00 p.m. and
     1:00 a.m. on at least four (4) nights a week, preferably including one weekend night
   - Obtain approval from your supervisor for all overnight absences from your assigned room
   - Perform periodic administrative tasks
   - Plan, promote, and implement programs as directed by the supervisor
   - Organize and/or support Housing intramural teams and participate in Residence Life Council
    (RLC)
   - Disseminate campus information as needed
   - Attend all area staff meetings and training meetings
   - Perform check-in and check-out procedures
   - Assist in new student visitation activities and special events
   - Support campus-wide events (ex. Orientation Week, Homecoming, athletic events)
   - Accept additional job tasks as required by department

Compensation
 
   - Private room or apartment*; local telephone service, voice mail, campus cable,
     high speed Internet connection
   - Monthly stipend of approximately $185.00
       *Applicants should be aware that RA rooms with kitchens in Beta, Gamma, and
         Delta 6 are generally assigned to returning RAs.
