All students are required to take a basic computing skills test, the Computer Proficiency Exam (CPE). Students who do not make a passing score will have the opportunity to repeat the test. Those students who do not make a passing score the second time will be required to complete one of the following options before graduation:
(1) passing CIS 150 Introduction to Computer Applications or another CIS course specified by the major
OR
(2) for students who are pursuing a major leading to teacher certification: passing EDM 310 Microcomputing Systems in Education. This course is required for all teacher certification programs.
NOTE: Students are advised to complete the computer competency requirement in the freshman or sophomore year since computing skills are used in most courses. Also, students should note that passing the CPE Exam or passing CIS 150 is a prerequisite for CIS 250. If you have any questions, please call the School of Computer and Information Sciences at (251)460-6390.
