Programs Offered by

Technology in Motion (TiM) programs are available to all Alabama public school teachers at no cost to the school or the individual teacher. For scheduling, contact Rita Dailey at South Alabama Research and Inservice Center at (251) 380-2712.
A full TiM program consists of hands-on instruction on laptops over a period of two and one-half days. Teachers check out the laptops for use at home and school for ten days, beginning on the first day of the workshop. Each participant also receives a training manual. Topics covered include word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, Internet research, curriculum development and integration, and general computer usage.

The Technology Education Course of Study was adopted by the Alabama State Board of Education on February 14, 2002, for implementation in the 2002-2003 school year. This program can be delivered in a two hour block of time.

The Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX) is an exciting new website created especially for the purpose of sharing lesson plans, web resources, and classroom tips among Alabama's K-12 teachers. The site also includes all Courses of Study and a personal workspace that allows individual teachers to store their lesson plans - or share them with their colleagues.

The Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) is a rich resource for Alabama students and teachers. Hands-on activities are offered in this program, which is designed to guide teachers through the various databases included within AVL.

Intel® Teach to the Future is a worldwide effort to help teachers integrate technology into instruction and enhance student learning. As part of the Intel® Innovation in Education initiative, a global, multi-million dollar effort to help realize the possibilities of science and technology in education, it is designed to prepare today’s teachers and students for tomorrow’s demands. Participating teachers receive extensive training and resources to promote effective technology use in the classroom. The training consists of 40 hours of hands-on instruction delivered by means of 10 curricular modules.

The State of Alabama has partnered with the Marco Polo Education Foundation to develop classroom activities, resources and lesson plans in seven subject areas, including humanities, language arts, economics, mathematics, science, geography, and art. These resources are collectively known as Marco Polo: Internet Content for the Classroom, and may be accessed free of charge by all Alabama teachers.

Individuals or schools wishing to maximize the use of Palm handheld computers in support of teaching and learning can attend regional programs conducted by a Palm Education Training Provider (PETP). PETPs are Palm Certified Trainers with expertise in the Palm OS® and years of personal experience as K-12 educators and administrators. They specialize in the educational application of Palm™ handheld computers for administration, teaching and learning. Programs provide participants with a high quality learning experience specially designed to meet the needs of administrators and teachers using Palm handhelds.
