2006: End of another school year and yet another graduating class
is moving on... once again the graduating class had about a 40% success rate
in being accepted into Medical / Dental / PA or other professional school
... of course several decided to take the year off to work or travel and so
that percentage is likely to increase... a few are also applying to MS or
PhD programs but I have not heard any news on acceptance as of yet... The BMD department is getting a new faculty member Dr. Azin Agah... Dr Agah joins our family from The University of Washington in Seattle, WA... she will eventually be teaching the Biochemistry sequence and Lab as Dr Turrens has deserted us for the Dean's office (he is the Associate Dean of the College of Allied Health now) Unfortunately we were unable to find anyone to fill Dr. Itaya's shoes... but we will be starting a new search in the near future... btw Dr.Itaya is doing great out in California... he is enjoying teaching and dealing with his new population of students...

IMPENDING NUPTIALS: It seems that
love is in the air and marriage is on the minds of the young... at least 3
(that I know of) BMD grads are planning on tying the knot this summer...
Jill Janda ('05) and Jessa McCarthy ('05) [and no not to each
other] and Jumin Sunde ('06) are all gettin' hitched this summer...
this follows the recent nuptials of Dr. Zari Aliabadi's daughter
Sherrie Afzalirad (USA grad '05) to Evan Dyal (USA grad '05) at
which two BMD grads, Amy Woodward and Vyshali Reddy [both whom
graduated in '04 and are now studying their hearts out in the MD program at
USA-COM] were at attendance... both Amy and Vyshali looked
GREAT and seem to be handling the stress very well... CONGRATS to ALL
!!! if you know of anyone else or if you are planning on taking or have recently taken the plunge let me know...

NEW ARRIVALS: CONGRATULATIONS to Cori and Tim Frerichs (both '02) on the birth of a baby girl and future BMD major... Kiele Michele Frerichs was born on 04/24/2006 and weighed in a healthy and happy 7 lbs. 9 oz. & 21 in. tall... she's a cutey!!!
