(Dr.) Shelley Williams graduated with a D.V.M. on May 7.  She completed a preceptorship in Birmingham and plans to get married and practice in Birmingham.  Email Dr. Itaya for her address.
Dr. Mike Spector received the Scholar of the Year Award from Phi Kappa Phi on April 17. 
Crysti (Hopkins) Varden (BMD ’94) successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation in Instructional Design and is expecting her first child in the middle of May.  She is hoping to walk at graduation May 4!  She is currently a faculty member in the College of Education .

Eight BMD grads will finish med school at USA this spring.  Here’s the list and their recently matched residencies:

  • James Randall Lakey; Wake Forest University and Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.; internal medicine
  • Joanna M. Andrews McKinley; University of Alabama at Birmingham; pediatrics
  • Genevieve I. McLeod; University of South Alabama; pathology
  • Rima Arun Mehta; Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia; obstetric/gynecology
  • Susan Elizabeth Paramore; Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C.; internal medicine
  • Jason Morgan Richerson; University of South Alabama; pediatrics
  • Michael Ross Tekulve; University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.; general surgery
Julia Centanni (BMD ’98) will graduate from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine this spring.  She recently wrote: "Just wanted to let you know that I matched at USA in Family medicine and I recently got married.  My new name is Julia Centanni Ellison. I'm in Mobile doing elective rotations until May, so if there are any BMD students interested in Osteopathic medicine, I'd be happy to talk to them."  

According to our records:

  • Ashley (Traczewitz) Roach (BMD ‘98) will graduate from the UAB School of Dentistry this spring.   She is married to Dr. Michael Roach (BMD ’97).
James Medwick (BMD ’02) is serving in the US Army in Kandahar .
Diana Niculescu (BMD ‘00), who is in the Vision Sciences Ph.D. program at UAB wrote that “I have been assembling the recording set-up for the second half of my project (recordings from single photoreceptors - mostly rods – in rat); the past few weeks I have been working on mastering retina dissection and suction electrode techniques. This week I have been swamped in paperwork (I am applying for the W.C.Ezell fellowship - from the American Optometric Foundation), but today I am back in the lab, doing experiments (on a monkey retina, for a change).”
Jane Schell (BMD ‘00), a first year student at the UAB School of Medicine, wrote, “thanks for the awesome histo class... It's really coming in handy. Also I don't think I could have done the presentation I did w/o your immuno. class. So thanks again. I'll talk to you soon, Jane."
Brian Adams (BMD ’00), who is in the Ph.D. program in Basic Medical Sciences at USA, is working as a graduate teaching assistant with Dr. Turrens in two sections of BMD 323, Biochemistry Lab, during the spring semester.

I just wanted you to know that I received an acceptance letter from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy yesterday! 
I went to interview at Auburn on March 9th, and I'm waiting to hear from them.

Stefanie Ledbetter BSN, CCRC (was Stefanie Honnell BMD '91) works as a Research and Outcomes Coordinator, East Alabama Medical Center.
