RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Dr. Ravine has an interest in examining potential relationships between human blood cells and free-living amebas.  Similarities in cellular function (e.g., phagocytosis, attachment, activation, etc.) exhibited by both of these cell types may suggest expression of highly conserved protein structures mediating various cellular activities.  Amebas are easy to propagate in large numbers and are cost effective to maintain making them an excellent model for these types of study.
