Major Heath Harriel MS I Instructor/S-3 Air

MAJ Kevin “Heath” Harriel is the Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of South Alabama (USA) in Mobile.

MAJ Harriel is a basic branch Infantry (branch detailed Quartermaster) Officer commissioned through the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration in 2002.

Upon completion of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, MAJ Harriel served as a Rifle Platoon Leader for A Company, 3/ 502d Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division in Mosul, Iraq and Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Following completion of the Quartermaster Transition Course, MAJ Harriel served as a Fuel and Water Platoon Leader for the 626th Brigade Support Battalion at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Upon completion of his Active Duty Service, MAJ Harriel entered the U.S. Army Reserve where he served as a Detachment Commander in the 310th Psychological Operations Company at Fort Gilliam, Georgia.

In January 2007, MAJ Harriel accepted an Active Guard/Reserve position as the Supply Officer for the 412th Engineer Command in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Upon completion of the Captains Career Course, he was cross-leveled and deployed with the 402nd Army Field Support Brigade as the Assistant Support Operations Officer and Future Operations Officer in Balad, Iraq in 2008.

Prior to assuming his current duties at USA, MAJ Harriel was the Company Commander of the Forward Support Company of the 397th Engineer Battalion in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

MAJ Harriel is a graduate of the Combined Logistics Captain Career Course at Fort Lee, Virginia and holds a Masters of Science in Sports Management from the University of Southern Mississippi.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, the Army Superior Unit Award, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal (M-DEV), the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War of Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Parachutist Badge and the Air Assault Badge.

MAJ Harriel and his wife Melanie have one son, two daughters, and 3 cats.
