Senior Military Science Instructor

Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Dirk Tyson first entered the service in 1985 enlisting as a 95B (Military Policeman). After completion of his basic and AIT courses he was stationed in Giessen Germany. After his enlistment he attended the University of South Alabama and in 1991 received his commission in the Field Artillery through the ROTC program.
After completing the Field Artillery basic course Mr. Tyson first served as a Platoon Leader in an MLRS unit in Korea and then as a Platoon Leader and XO with the 3rd Squadron 2nd ACR Fort Polk LA.

After attending the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course, Mr. Tyson served as a Battalion Fire Support Office, Battalion Maintenance Officer and Battery Commander with the 25th Infantry Division. He was then selected to attend the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth KS.

Following graduation from the Command and General Staff College Mr. Tyson served as the Battalion S3 and XO in the 212th and the 214th BDE and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation

Iraqi Freedom.

His last assignment was at the Pentagon serving in the J7 on the Joint Staff, his primary duties were in support of writing and staffing the Chairman’s guidance on Special Operation doctrine for all the services.  

His awards and decorations include the Joint Service Medal with one oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Joint Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon with four oak leaf clusters, the Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
