
Ausubel's Criteria for Advance Organizers:
- It is a brief, abstract prose passage.
- The foundation of the prose passage is that it shows similarities between old material and new material.
- Without substantial similarities, an advance organizer is not possible.
- It is an introduction to a new lesson, unit, or course.
- It is an abstract outline of new information and is a restatement of prior knowledge.
- It provides the students with a structure for the new information.
- It encourages students to transfer or apply what they know.
- It consists of content having considerable intellectual substance, material which is more than common knowledge.
