Advance Organizer
The term advance organizer has been applied to many types of organization strategies. David Ausubel coined the term in 1960 and he has developed a set of criteria that defines an advance organizer as opposed to a graphic organizer, theme map, content map, or other types of organizational aid.
We will look at what is, according to Ausubel, an advance organizer and we will look briefly at other organizing strategies that have been called advance organizers even though they don't meet the defining criteria set by Ausubel. Other chapters in the course deal with these other types of organizational aids.
