Frequently Asked Questions

What is the BSET Bike at the Beach?

The Bike at the Beach is a social gathering of the University of South Alabama's Department of Behavioral Studies and Educational Technology.  It is designed as a way for everyone to get together, have fun, relax, get some exercise, and hang out with colleagues away from school.

Who is invited to the event?

All students, staff, faculty, alumni, and friends of the department are invited and encouraged to attend.

Can I bring a family member or friend?

Sure!  The more the merrier!

Do I have to bring anything?

Sandwich items, soft drinks, and water will be provided.  You may wish to bring chips or other picnic items, but you don't have to.  Also, it might be a good idea to bring a lawn chair or blanket.  You may also wish to bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.

Do I have to ride my bike?

No.  You can come and just hang out.  You can also walk the bike trails.  Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the bike trails in Dauphin Island.

Is this a bike race?

No.  It is a non-competitive, leisurely, friendly event where people can ride their bikes on their own, as far as they wish, at their own pace.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Many people do not wear helmets when riding the bike trails.  However, everyone who participates in the BSET Bike @ the Beach is STRONGLY encouraged to wear a helmet.  Wearing a helmet is a basic safety precaution that may prevent serious injury in the event of an accident and it sets a good example for younger riders.

Will there be grills for cooking?

No.  There are some grills available in the public beach area.  However, since you can't reserve them and since you never know how many other groups will be in the area, we decided it was best if we didn't count on having any grilled food.

Can I bring my pet?

Sure.  You may want to bring extra water and a drinking bowl for your pets - it could be very hot!

Will there be any rest rooms?

Yes, there are rest rooms in the Dauphin Island Public Beach area.

Who is sponsoring the event?

The event is sponsored by the Department of Behavioral Studies and Educational Technology,
