Welcome to the Online programs in Educational Administration.

Two options designed to prepare administrators for public and private schools or for positions in post-secondary education are now available on the Internet:

 
Option 1:
Master of Education with a major in Educational Leadership (a non-certification program)
  
   
 
Option 2:
Master of Education with a major in School Leadership leading to Alabama Class A Certification in Instructional Leadership.
 
 


The options of these Online programs qualify their graduates to serve as assistant principals, principals, supervisors, and superintendents in K-12 schools throughout Alabama or to seek appointments in post-secondary education.

The Online format offers students the flexibility and convenience of taking graduate courses at home, at the office, or wherever else they have access to the Internet. These programs are designed to provide contact with the professor, interaction with other students, and access to the University Library.

Students can complete most program requirements Online. EDL 513, Instructional Leadership and Curriculum Development, must be taken on campus. The written comprehensive examination must also be taken on campus. EDL 513 will be offered every Summer and, based on student demand, may be offered during other semesters. Professors will work with students to schedule the written comprehensive examination as conveniently as possible.


Option 1: Master of Education with a major in Educational Leadership

 
Admission Requirements
  
1. Sufficient courses in the major area to qualify for graduate study in the involved discipline.
2. An appropriate advanced degree may be used in lieu of other requirements for Regular Standing..
3. A completed application for admission to the Graduate School.
4. Official test scores - GRE (must be sent by testing agency to the Registrar.
5. Official transcripts from all institutions attended.
6. Submission of resume with chronology of professional employment.
7. Two letters of recommendation attesting to your scholarship and/or professional abilities.
8. Two page narrative on your career goals and purpose for graduate study.
  
 
Program Requirements
  
The academic requirements of this program include:

1. completing a minimum of 21 semester hours as outlined below with at least a 3.25 grade point average
2. passing assessment modules with at least a 70 percent level of proficiency
3. passing a written comprehensive examination.

Additional Requirements
  
Students who have not completed a survey course of exceptionalities as part of an undergraduate or graduate program must take SPE 500, Nature and Needs of Exceptional Children and Youth.

  



Option 2:  CLASS A CERTIFICATION IN EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATION
with a MASTER OF EDUCATION DEGREE IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP

 
Admission Requirements
  
Students entering this program must have a bachelor's degree and Alabama Class B Certification in a teaching field. Students must apply for degree candidacy after completing 9-18 semester hours and complete all College of Education requirements for admission to candidacy. Two years of successful teaching experience in an approved school are required before the Alabama Class A Certificate in Educational Administration can be issued. The certificate is valid for five years and is renewable.

  
 
Program Requirements
  
The academic requirements of this program include:

1. completing a minimum of 33-36 semester hours as outlined below with at least a 3.25 grade point average

2. passing assessment modules with at least a 70 percent level of proficiency

3. passing a written candidacy examination

4. passing a written comprehensive examination.
