"As Director of the 2013-2014 First Year Council, I am excited to have the opportunity to work with an amazing group of first year students, who are dedicated to enhancing the experiences of first year students at the University of South Alabama. I will strive to do all that I can to make their vision a reality. Go Jags!"

2013-2014 First Year Council Director

So... What is FYC?

The purpose of First Year Council is to serve as the sole voice of the freshman body at the University of South Alabama. The 2013-2014 First Year Council is comprised of 22 highly-qualified freshmen chosen through an application and interview process. Working hand in hand with South’s Student Government Association, First Year Council will strive to improve the freshman experience at the University of South Alabama. As First Year Council members work alongside SGA, they will also gain valuable insight into the executive, legal, and judicial branches of SGA. Furthermore, the President of First Year Council also serves as Freshman-at-Large and gets a vote in SGA senate proceedings.

First Year Council meets every Thursday that school is in session at 7:30 PM in the Stokes Hall classroom. Throughout the year, First Year Council will also be present at the Dining Hall in bimonthly events called “Dinner with FYC.” At these events, First Year Council members will be available, so that students can suggest improvements to the freshman experience. If you have any suggestions on improving the freshman experience at the University of South Alabama, feel free to contact any First Year Council Chair or email us at
