Approval of the Minutes

Pearson- I move to approve the minutes from April 11, 2011 by acclimation.

Officer Reports

President Proctor- We only have one more meeting, and we will be voting on awards tonight, which will be discussed at the banquet. The only thing left is the budget meetings to discuss the tuitions increase and the USA budget for next year will start next week.

Vice President Al-Greene- Please add Gym Equipment to New Business. You will also see Senator Norton’s Education project budget information.

Treasurer Baldwin- $10, 775.90 is left in the operating budget.

Attorney General Macon- We have leftover Higher Ed Day Shirts, and they are in the office, if you want one.

Chief Justice Shephard- No report, but I am passing around the bucket for donations for Braiden. We are almost to our goal! We are only $50 away.

Dean Mitchell- No report.

 

Committee Reports

Student at Large Pittman- April 26 from 8-10:30am is when our IPC Breakfast is. This Tuesday, the Mythbuster guy is going to be here at the Mitchell Center at 7pm, and it‘s free. Wedneday, there is going to be a comedian here in the ballroom at 7:30pm, and it is free. Brown Bag at the Belltower this Wednesday from 11:30 to 1:30, just bring your own lunch and represent SGA. Thursday, Jag Softball plays at 4pm. This weekend we are hosting the Sunbelt Tennis Championship, it starts Thursday at 9am for the Women and 10am for the Men, and it’s free.

Pro Tempore Perry- No report, but I am passing around your office hours. The last day to do them is going to be the first week of May before Finals.

Sells- The appropriation committee has done great work, we talked about the changes and improvements we would like to see. I am going to write a resolution on it.

 

Old Business

Norton- I move to open the floor for the Manipulative project. The total price is $358.26. We had to buy a few boxes, but we know where we are putting them in the counselor’s office.  The secretary is going to have a binder where people can sign them in and out.

Sells- I move to close the floor and motion to fund this project.

Senators- Second.

Al-Greene- All in favor?

Proctor- Just as a point of information, because we have discussed the Gym Equipment project before, that can also be brought up in Old Business.

Gessner- I move to open the floor for discussion for the gym equipment.

Proctor- Information on it was sent out in the e-mail Colin sent. $2,500 is what they were requesting. Any questions?  It’s for the weight room.

Gessner- We have the money, so I think we should fund it.

Sells- I move to close the floor and fund the gym equipment.

Senators- Second.

MOTION PASSES

Hussain- I move to open the floor to talk about the Kappa Sigma tennis tournament. The sheet said we had 150 shirts to give out. It has our SGA symbol, and it’s for a good cause.

Gessner- When I read, it said they are selling the shirts. Are we allowed to do that if they are going to be sold?

Baldwin- No, I don’t think so. I need a copy of The Lowdown.

Proctor- If we pay for it, it can’t be sold for profit.

Pearson- I think it is wrong. It’s basically us giving money to them.

Perry- Especially since our money is public money, and it is not allowed to go directly to the Fraternity.

Sells- With this information, I move to close the floor.

Senators- Second.

 

New Business

Perry- I move to open the floor for Nominations for the Senator of Fall Semester.

Byrd- I want to nominate Paige Perry.

Perry- I accept

Wheat- Alan Sells

Perry- Chris Jones

Hall- Ashley Johnston

Pittman- Tim Powell

Proctor- I am going to read out the list: Perry, Sells, Jones, Johnston, and Powell. Anyone want to take a minute to say why they nominated that person?

Perry- Chris worked really hard on working on the resolutions. He did a lot of research and spent a lot of long hours. He has open the administration’s eyes to students wants and what the University needs.

Pittman- I nominated Tim  because his work for the bike racks.

Sells- I move to close the floor for the Senator of the Fall semester.

Proctor- Guys, please write that in on your sheet.

Gessner- I move to open the floor for Senator of Spring semester. I nominate Jessica Byrd for the whole take your Professor to Coffee project.

Hall- I nominate Alan Sells for  his work with appropriations.

Powell- I nominate Pearson.

Gessner- I move to close the floor.

Proctor- It‘s Byrd, Sells, and Pearson.

Gessner- I move to open the floor for Senator of the Year. I nominate Alan Sells because everyone has reiterated that he did a lot for Fall and Spring semester.

Mchaffey- I move to nominate Paige; she has done a good job with everything she has done.

Sells- I move to close the floor.

Proctor- The options are Perry or Sells, please vote.

Sells- I move to open the floor for Committee Chair. I move to nominate Carly. She keeps us in line.

Gessner- I move to nominate Kim for Elections Committee, she has done a lot for us.

Byrd- I move to nominate Ashley Johnston because Homecoming is a huge undertaking, and she had a lot of work.

Perry- I nominate Jeremy Johnson. Every time I sent him something for the website, he put it up within 24hours, and it looked good.

Beovich- I want to nominate senator Sells.

Wheat- I move to close the floor.

Proctor- The options are: Hall, me, Johnston, Johnson, or Sells.

Sells- I move to open the floor for the Barbara Shirvanian Staff Member of the Year. I move to nominate for Lieutenant Orso for taking control of the department, and she should be recognized.

Byrd- I nominate Trent and he works for ARMARK. He is always friendly, and I will have to get his last name. He always goes above and beyond.

Proctor- Unfortunately, ARMARK is not considered staff because they are appointed by head quarters and sent here.

Beovich- I want to nominate Lloyd Myers of the Athletic Staff. He is at everything you go to and does a lot with SGA.

Powell- I would like to nominate Rachel Boldman.

Wolf- I move to close the floor.

Proctor- You have: Lieutenant Orso, Lloyd Myers, or Rachel Boldman (student center coordinator).

Sells- I move to open the floor for the Glenn Sebastian Faculty Member of the Year award. I move to open the floor for the director of advising in the College of Education, who is a visual member of faculty. Always has an open door and open ear. It’s Professor Delmas.

Pearson- I nominate Dr. Conners. He is President of Faculty Senate and a Geology professor. He has helped us a lot!

Proctor- He won that award last year, as a point of information.

LePointe- I move to nominate the head of the History department, Dr. Rodgers. He is a great advisor and he has done a lot of for the History department.

Perry- I nominate Doug Marshall for Sociology. He is super into student life and improving the University.

Gessner- Dr. Schulze for Political Science. She has taken in a lot of kids who want to do research projects.

Sells- I move to close the floor.

Proctor- Your options are: Delmas, Rodgers, Marshall, Schulze, and Conners.

Perry- I move to open the floor for nominations of Kelley Whitter School Spirit award. I nominate Courtney Smith. He played in the Senior Bowl. He is a very nice guy and a great representative of our athletic department.

Shephard- I nominate Cameron Macon, he always wears jaguar gear. He also helped with Higher Ed Day, which supported South in a major way. He attends most sporting functions. He would be great for this award, and he has been great for SGA!

Gessner- I move to nominate Devi Sampat. She is a Southerner, in Mortar Board, in Honor Programs… she advocates everything South. She is so enthusiastic and really loves South!

Powell- I nominate Ashley Pittman. She is very motivated to do everything.

Proctor- I would like to nominate Julie Tanner. All of us in this room’s Jaguar gear multiplied by ten does not beat her wardrobe school spirit. She attends so much, and has a genuine love for South. You would think that she has been saying “Go Jags” since she was born.

Sells- I move to nominate Carly Hall. I see her at every Jag event that I have ever been to. She is always excited and full of life, and I feel like she would be a great representative of this.

Al-Greene- I would like to nominate Sam Wicker. He is the guy at the games who always wears the toga and carries the sword.

Wolf- I move to close the floor for nominations.

Proctor- Here are your options: Courtney Smith, Cameron Macon, Devi Sampat, Ashley Pittman, Julie Tanner, Carly Hall, or Sam Wicker (aka Toga Man). Please fold this hamburger style, so we can collect them.

 

Student Forum

GLBTA Representative- Our Drag Show is May 5th in the Student Center Ballroom. Three of our judges are in here now. I hope everyone comes out and supports us!

 

Announcements

Proctor- April 29th is going to be the first of many Spring Cleaning Extravaganzas. It is going to be 9am-4:30pm, so we can clean out all of our stuff, so we can move over to the old Rec center. Mrs. Greta will be officiating that for office hours to consolidate, and it is a Friday.

Shephard- If you want to have Monday-Funday again, meet in the office after this.

Perry- IPC will also count for office hours. I forgot to thank Emily Carlson. She signed up over 100 people for the Jag to Jag Meal Donation project. Riley also helped!

Hall- Next Monday, we are going to have a Rules Committee meeting at 7pm.

Proctor- I need to see Paige, Jessica, Eric, Julie, Pearson, Coleman, Nina, Colin, Tim, Cameron, and Miranda after this in my office.

LePointe- I will have figures for my senate project for next week!
