Officer Reports

President Proctor- Because of the weather, we are going to be fast. SGA Elections are going on this week, and we have had a lot of problems with vandalism and slander. If you see or hear any of this, please go online because there is a link for you to send an anonymous tip for the election committee to follow up on. Also, the bike meeting is rescheduled, but we are ready to approve funding for racks with minimal discussion. Lastly, I had a conversation with Dr. Smith about drafting the GLBTA resolution for nondiscrimination policy, and he said they have started drafting that. So, hopefully, we will have that in the coming week.

Vice President Al-Greene- We have three more meetings after this one, so continue to look for senate projects, we don‘t want to have to roll over too much money. We have a list of possible homecoming themes for next year to go over as well.

Treasurer Baldwin- $38,441.00 is in the operating budget. We have our banquet coming up, Higher Ed day, and IPC breakfast (which is where the presidents of student organizations meet) that will also be taking money out of the operating budget.

Attorney General Macon- I am going to ask you to approve $1,700 in new business for High Ed day. $1625 is for the buses, and $75 is for the food. I also have liability forms for

Chief Justice Shephard- I been speaking to the senate about an article in the Vanguard for about a semester and a half now. I talked to Danielle from the Vanguard, and she has given it to be published by Alex, the SGA reporter for the Vanguard. Hopefully, it is to be seen soon.

Special Orders

Dean Mitchell- I wanted to announce for those of you, who will be available to attend the Men’s March Against Violence next Wednesday. You will get a t-shirt sponsored by the SGA, and one office hour. It is April 13th at 12:15pm at the Belltower. Also ,this executive group is about to have the last lunch with the president this Wednesday at 12:30pm in cafeteria.

Student Cassie Fambro- I have come to be an ambassador for Creativity for a Cure to sponsor children. It is like Make-a-Wish. Braiden is 7 years old; he has brain cancer, and he is not expected to make it. He had a wish come true of meeting The Band Perry, and his favorite song is “If I Die Young”, and they sang it to him at the music awards. Braiden also has a 8 ½ year old brother, who is not forgotten, but he doesn’t have the childhood of a regular child. We have a goal of raising $300 for this family. I have a bucket with me, and the article that I wrote on it for the Vanguard.

Proctor- We are going to keep the bucket until Friday if you have friends that want to donate.

Committee Reports

Student at Large Pittman- This week is very busy. It is Spring Fever for Jaguar Productions. They are going to have giant twister on Tuesday from 11-1pm at the Student Center, and lazer tag from 6-10pm. Jazz ensemble has a Spring concert at 7:30pm tomorrow. On Wednesday, they are offering flip photo book in the Student Center. The tennis team is playing Troy at 2pm, and so is softball team at 6pm on Wednesday night. This Thursday is Jag Jam at Epsilon II at 7pm. This Friday, it’s the Jags v. Florida Atlantic, and  it is the last day to drop a course. Saturday and Sunday, there are softball and basbel games as well. Softball plays Saturday at 1 and 3pm; Baseball is at 2pm.

Pro Tempore Perry- I passed around an office hour list. Whatever you sign on the form is the updated list. Need 25 hours per semester. The BMD library got a grant to do a community day to promote safety, they are going to be asking SGA to help. So, I am passing around a signup sheet for that event, which is next Wednesday from 9:30am-3pm. Troy will be doing safety tips, go to him if you need hours.

Proctor- The ballots went out tonight. Some people have not gotten it yet. All were supposed to be out by 7:15pm at latest. If you haven’t gotten it by the morning, please send me a Facebook message. Wednesday, from 4:45 to 5:30pm, we are going to have DJ Tim Powell at the Belltower to make the announcements of next year’s SGA more memorable and prestigious.

Sells- Appropriations committee, we still have a little bit more to do. Please start coming up with ideas of ways to make it run more smoothly. I am thinking about meeting Wednesday at 5pm, let me know if this is good for you.

Perry- I will give you one office hour if you come to the Belltower announcement.

Old Business

No old business.

New Business

Sells- I would like to open the floor for homecoming ideas

Proctor- I think they’re awful. Any ideas?

Wolf- Fight the hawks!

Johnston- Just as a point of information, they are going to decide tomorrow at the meeting, so make serious suggestions.

Gessner- I like sweep the side hawks. People would get into, since it’s around Halloween.

Sells- Humiliate the hawks. I mean we are still undefeated.

Wolf- I move to close the floor.

Senators- Second.

Norton- I open the floor to discuss the senate project.

Senators- Second

Norton- For the College of Education, I wanted to do a manipulative senate project, manipulative meaning skills for mathematics and to see visually to manipulate it. I am meeting with the dean on Wednesday. I am going to have costs on Tuesday, so I just wanted to let you know now.

Ramsey- I move to close the floor.

Hussain- I move to talk about Camp-Rap-a-Hope, which will be done by my Fraternity Kappa Sigma.

Student Representative Fallon- It would be a tennis tournament, that’s held at Camp Smile, and it will be for kids who have cancer. It is free for students, who go to camp, and it’s not cheap to run a camp, so our goal is to hold a tennis tournament to raise money for the camp. We will need money for t-shirt and things (like tennis balls, awards for those who did win, water for players and materials for rackets). We also worked it out with the Greek Life Coordinator for the Greeks to have an incentive; they will get double or triple the community service hour for the time played. It is open to any student who wants to play. $15 for single and $10 for double.

Norton- Which organization again…Camp-Rap-a-Hope or Camp Smile?

Fallon- Camp-Rap-a-Hope. The main focus is the camp.

Norton- is that in mobile?

Fallon- It’s at Camp Smile in Citronelle.

Sells- How much do you need?

Fallon- $2,000

Proctor- I think I see some head nods around the room. Just get some material for us of more specific information of what will be spent.

Fallon- I can do that. The sign up sheet is in the Office of Campus Involvement if anyone wants to sign up to play.

Ramsey- Bring it like you would bring a list of appropriations.

Gessner- Also, we can’t give money in form of a reimbursement for the money left over to just go to the charity, it has to have a specific purpose. I move to close floor.

Senators- Second

Proctor- Just a point, so you know what’s going on: Everyone seems interested, just get vice-president Al-Greene a spread sheet of items you need.

Pittman- I move to open the floor to give money to the IPC for the presidents.

Senators- Second

Pittman- Every semester, we invite all the presidents of every organization to meet. We are hoping to do this later on in this semester as a breakfast, so we can make sure we get everything in. We haven’t set a date yet. Last semester, we had a speaker. Normally it is $2000, but I just want to ask for $500 to do just a breakfast, instead of a dinner like we normally do.

Sells- I move to close floor and allocate $500 to IPC Breakfast.

Senators- Second.

Al-Greene- All in favor?

Senators- I.

Al-Greene- Opposed? Abstentions?

MOTION PASSES

Perry- I move to open the floor for discussion of allocating $2,000 of the summer budget for orientation supplies. We did cards with the fight songs on them and pens and cups for the previous years for new students to know who SGA is. We need for this stuff for the first orientation. I am thinking about doing about 2,000. We always use J print.

Ramsey- It might be a good idea to take out $200 out of the current budget for this.

Proctor- That’s what we normally do, so can we just go ahead and approve this money because the money will be rolled over from this semester anyway.

Rodgers- I move to close the floor and approve $2,000 for supplies.

Senators- Second.

Al-Greene- All in favor?

Senators- I.

Al-Greene- Opposed? Abstentions?

MOTION PASSES

Perry- I move to open the floor to approve $1,700 for Higher Ed Day.

Senators- Second.

Perry- I think we should do it, and I close the floor.

Senators- Second.

Perry- I move that we approve

MOTION PASSES

Ramsey- I move to open the floor for discussion of the bike racks.

Proctor- $10,000 would be a good number of funds to work with for this. Only a few places that need to add to or put bike racks there. Normally, the racks are $1,000 to $1,200 a piece. They will be permanent, so they can’t be stolen. They are the ones like the ones at the Rec Center or Dining Hall.

Hussain- As a point of information, Sarah Rentz, the Rec Center head says that Alabama has to have a waiver to be signed.

Proctor- Attorney Jean Tucker is dealing with that, and it’s going to have a plaque

Ramsey- Just bike racks?

Proctor- Yes

Perry- I move to close the floor for $10,000 for bike racks.

Senators- Second.

Al-Greene- All in favor?

Senators- I.

Al-Greene- Opposed? Abstentions?

MOTION PASSES

Ramsey- I would like to open the floor to discuss the SGA banquet.

Senators- Second.

Proctor- I am going to have to wait a week for numbers to see who gets elected. If we have 50 people, the food will be 875, and plaques will go on top of that. I am thinking $2,000 would be solid number with plaques. I am more comfortable waiting for next week to approve it. I will not spend over $2,500. We will cut down on dates before we spend that.

Sells- I move to close the floor.

Senators- Second.

Al-Greene- All in favor?

Senators- I.

Al-Greene- Opposed? Abstentions?

MOTION PASSES

Ramsey- Just a point of information, who was in charge of updating plaques last year?

Proctor-  I am not sure, we will have to go back and look.

Student Forum

GLBTA Representative- We are a month away from the Drag Show. It’s going to be a lot of fun and educational. Next Saturday, we are holding our Q ball, which is our second chance alternative ball at Spring Hill college, which is a bi-university event. Tickets go on sale next week.

Announcements

Proctor- I got a call from the budget office. They have 4 budget meetings on the calendar the third week of April up until May 6th. The new president and I will be going to this meeting. I asked if it was going to be good, they didn’t give me an answer. However, we just raised $86 for a good cause!

Baldwin- Wednesday at 5pm is the Appropriation meeting. After tonight, we have $24, 000 in the operating budget, but we also have the banquet, Kappa Sigma, College of Education project, and any other ideas.

Proctor- After this, Election Committee meet in my office.

Sheppard- We are going to have a safety guide for an upcoming SGA event. Meet right after this meeting.

Macon- Please give me Higher Education forms tonight!

Davis- I am on the sustainability committee. We are working on light switch cover. Get some from me and put on the light switch of your building.

Ramsey- For the safety and welding equipment, I still don’t have hard numbers for you.

Sells- These are stickers are great, but do not put stickers in RA rooms.
