Reports
President
Proctor- I serve on the committee that will select the new police
chief. We submitted 7 names of the possible candidates that might be intervied.
We will be involved in the process later. We will hopefully have a lunch or
question/answer session. Tomorrow is Election Day. Go Vote! The Suicide
Prevention Walk is this Sunday. A sign-up sheet is going around. We need people
to put up yard signs, people working the sign-in table, and we need help
counting donations as they come in. We will have at least 100 members of the
community coming.
Vice
President Al-Greene-Homecoming court stuff is wrapping up
this week. Several of you missed the composite picture day. The make-up day is
December 1st from 4-7 p.m.
Treasurer
Baldwin-The balance of the operating budget has not changed. It is
$22,555.10
Attorney
General Macon-Duck Sale tickets are due Nov. 8th.
Turn money and tickets into Nina.
Chief
Justice Shephard-We are still working with the Vanguard
about JagTran surveys.
Special
Orders
Dean
Mitchell-Luncheon with the President is on Nov. 15 at 12:30p.m. If
you have anything that you would like for the Executive Officers to bring up at
the luncheon then let them know. I have applications for Who’s who that are for
juniors and seniors. Due Nov. 8. We have invited former SGA Presidents that
will be back to celebrate homecoming with us. 11 have been confirmed.
Committee
Reports
Student
At Large Pittman- We beat Georgia State this past weekend
and this weekend is Homecoming at 4 p.m.
Pro
Tempore Perry- You have the GLBTA Resolution in front
of you. If the senators have any input or changes you can let us know. Any
senators that want to help me and Troy alter the Student-At-Large duties, let
us know. Office hours have been updated. Homecoming will help you get plenty
that you need to do.
Chair
King- If you need any publicity for your events, let me know.
Johnston-The
sign-up sheets are going around. The tent will be up from 8-3. Check your
emails tomorrow because there is a 90% chance of rain, so we might have to
change Junk the Jungle. T-shirts are in, they are $5.50 if you want some.
Schneider-
I am heading up cleanup. Let me know if you would like to
help. I have sent out emails.

Ramsey-I
move to open the floor for discussion of Stadium Boulevard Information.
Dean
Mitchell- Before the project started this summer. It was closed for
some of the summer. This is part of the 3-entrance project. The others include
North Drive, South Drive, and Stadium Blvd.
Sells-
I’m an RA, and so is my girlfriend. A lot of residents have
been complaining about not being able to get out. They have heard that it won’t
open to spring.
Dean
Mitchell-It should be back
open when faculty returns for Spring Semester.
Ramsey-
Why has this not been done just during the summers?
Dean
Mitchell-It’s a matter of cost.
Wolf-I
live in Beta 1, and there has been a problem with the barricades.
Dean
Mitchell- I will pass that on to the site
manager.
Sells-
I move to close the floor.
Ramsey-
I move to open the floor for discussion for fee increase for student media.
Proctor-We
have a new radio station, it’s called Jag Radio. They need funding for
equipment. We are helping them become a registered student organization. Dr.
Aquin wants a fee increase to help fund them. I can compile an email in the
next few days so you can think of questions
Sells-What
station do students tune to?
Proctor-It’s
web-based right now, it’s virtually no cost but equipment. It’s about a 1.5
million dollar project.
Youngblood-
I move to close the floor.
Sells-I
would like to open the floor for discussion of the GLBTA resolution. I wanted
to get the representative’s input on this; yield to Senator Jones
Jones-I
have gone over the university’s policy and other school’s policies. There are a
lot of universities that have this policy and we basically mirrored theirs and
came up with this. USA is the first university in the state that wouldn’t
discriminate against race for enrollment.
Perry-
I yield my floor to Dean Mitchell
Dean
Mitchell- I was able to speak to Dr. Smith. I think that it may be
beneficial to have a member of administration to come speak to you about…I
would be willing to make an invitation to get a university’s aspect of the
policy.
Youngblood-
I think that going against this as a representation of a student body would be
not good. Maybe we can get together as a senate to discuss the resolution.
Representative-You
all are here tonight, so why spend more time to discuss this?
Proctor-
What he means is that it’s usually our procedure to go out
and discuss things with each of the colleges and get the opinions from the
students and their constituents on matters. Then we can discuss it at next
week’s meeting.
Ramsey-Would
it be possible to send a survey out to the students this week to get their
opinion?
Proctor-If
you send it through Cecilia then that’s fine. I think that it would be more
beneficial to do this face-to-face. It would be more personal.
Al-Greene-
Humanities has a lot of traffic every day, so I would
suggest to go out there some mornings and find out what they think.
Jones-The
writing of the resolution was open to everyone, but if you want to meet again
we can.
Ramsey-I
think it would be a good idea to discuss this at next week’s meeting.
Sells-I
move to close the floor.
Youngblood-object;
I wanted to set a date to meet to do this so that we can present this correctly
to the student body.
Sells-
I move to reopen the floor; we all need to be of one mind about this. We need
to go to our constituents and make sure that we are all in agreement about this
matter.
Jones-
That’s if the entire group is in support of this. Maybe we
can start a discussion on the Facebook group.
Perry-
We should meet at 6:30 before the meeting next week.
Sells- I move to close the floor.
