The faculty and staff of the University Library are committed to providing access to its materials and services for disabled users. This guide outlines the services available:
Parking and Entrance
Handicapped parking spaces are located by the loading dock on the West side of the library. A ramp on the dock leads to the West entrance. Handicapped spaces are also available in the North parking lot near the sidewalk into the East entrance
Elevator
The upper three floors are accessible by the elevator. The elevator control panel is at wheelchair level and has Braille indicators. The elevators also have audible signals and an emergency telephone.
SOUTHcat Access
There are SOUTHcat terminals that are accessible to persons in wheelchairs.
In-Library Retrieval Requests
The Circulation Desk will accept requests to have library materials retrieved from the main book shelves for in-library use or check out.
Telephone Retrieval Requests
Disabled users may call the Circulation Desk (251-460-7028) and request retrieval of titles (limit 10). Available items will be held for user pickup at the Circulation Desk.
Reserves
Reserve materials are shelved behind the Circulation Desk in the Lobby. Present your student ID when you request reserve materials.
Reference Desks
Public Service Librarians are available to provide assistance in locating information. Users are encouraged to phone in advance to schedule appointments.

Photocopy Machines
Library photocopiers are self-service and operate using a TracCard. Disabled users who experience difficulty in making copies may request Circulation staff (First floor) or Reference/Copy Service (Second floor North) to make copies for them. Allow 24 hours for this service. Copies are 10¢ a page.
Courtesy Telephone
A courtesy phone is located in the Atrium near the circular staircase and the elevators.
Rest Rooms
All floors have wheelchair accessible rest rooms.
Emergencies
If the fire alarm sounds, do NOT use the elevator. Wait by the stairs, and the library staff will come to you.
Students are encouraged to register with USA's Disabled Student Services (251) 460-7212 or http://www.southalabama.edu/dss/ in order to receive assistance campus wide. Disabled Student Services has a lab designed for disabled students which provides voice-activated computers, Braillers and enlargers. Available in Room 208 of the Student Center.
