Most books in academic libraries are arranged on the shelves according to the
Classification System of the Library of Congress. This categorizes knowledge
into different classes. Each class is identified
by a letter. Classes are broken down into sub classes
by adding more letters. Sub classes are further broken
down using numbers. This system keeps books on the same topic
together on the shelves. You can use this system to go to the shelves and browse
the area you are interested in. The complete LC call number for a book may be
found by consulting the USA catalog. The librarians will be happy to assist
you if you are unable to find the book you want.
