- Each course is open to all members of the Student Recreation Center, as well as all USA faculty and staff. Faculty & staff do NOT have to be members of the Recreation Center to participate.
- Pre-registration is required by one week prior to the course date. There are no refunds unless the class is cancelled by the instructor. If you cannot attend, you may transfer to a future class for an additional $10.
- Nursing students must have CPR for the Professional Rescuer or Healthcare Provider. Allied Health students trying to exempt HS 170 must take both CPR/AED and Standard First Aid.

Description: Course includes recognizing and caring for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants, two rescuer CPR, and use of a resuscitation mask and bag valve mask. Must pass both skills and written tests. Valid for two year.

We are looking into American Red Cross blended learning classes in which the participant will complete Part 1 lecture online and then demonstrate the Part 2 skills to a Red Cross instructor at the Rec Center. More information will be posted here when blended learning classes are available.

Description: First Aid covers sudden illness recognition, controlling bleeding, and injuries to muscles, bones, & joints, and heat/cold injuries. Must pass both skills and written tests. Valid for two years.

Date & Time: Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays(January 24th, 26th, 31st, and February 2nd, 7th, 9th, 16th, 21st, 23rd, and 28th). Class time is 6:00-9:30 pm. You must attend all classes to become certified.
Register by: January 19th. Space is limited to 20 participants so register early. To register, visit the front desk or pool deck and pick up a registration packet. You can turn in your packet and registration money to the front desk. We only take cash or checks (checks preferred, please make payable to USA). Click here for registration form.
Cost: $150.00
Location: Student Recreation Center
Description: Course provides entry level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and, respond to emergencies and provide care until emergency medical services arrive and take over. You must be at least 15 years of age.
To be eligible for the lifeguarding course you must be able to Swim 300 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order:
100 yds of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and stabilizing, propellant kick.
100 yds of breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence.
100 yds of front crawl, breaststroke, or combination of both.
You must also be able to swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
