Covering the areas of inorganic,
organic, analytical physical chemistry to the
world of biological chemistry, students are prepared
so that they are ready to enter graduate school,
industry, or the world of biomedical research.
The Department has closes ties with the College
of Medicine and Marine Science programs. The Department
takes great pride in the close student-faculty
relationships that develop during these undergraduate
days at the University. All chemistry students
get an opportunity to participate in undergraduate
research with the faculty. Many of the students
also have gone on to present their research work
at National research meetings.
For
the past several years, our Department of Chemistry
has been directly involved in delivering chemistry
laboratory experiences to the high schools of
Mobile County (largest school district in Alabama).
Many high schools do not have laboratory facilities
or the necessary equipment needed to do hands-on

chemistry.
This direct involvement with the public schools
(Science in Motion Project) is very active and
provides the local community with the necessary
expertise and equipment for increasing awareness
of the field of chemistry and its role
in society. The Department is proud to play a
role in this educational enhancement for high
school students and teachers.
I invite you to consider the
study of chemistry as a viable option for your
future. It continues to present many exciting
opportunities within industry and academics. I
hope you will take the time to visit our web site,
and if possible visit our campus and Department.
