Introduction to Instructional and Learning Strategies

     In this unit we will provide a foundation for the other topic areas covered in this course. Terms such as cognitive, schemata, and perception are thrown around easily but understood with difficulty. Instructional and learning strategies depend on these concepts. Coming to grips with a personal definition of these concepts will help you become a better strategist and educator.

 

Objective:

  • Define cognition, prior knowledge, and schema theory.

  • Integrate theories and perspectives on learning to instruction.

  • Define learning in the context of the learners in their learning contexts and learning needs.

  • Selection, sequencing and synthesizing of instructional content.

  • Match learning and instructional strategies to content and delivery media.
