The following changes are of particular note:
• A new chapter
introducing and comparing the three major methodological paradigms
in educational research (Chapter 2: Quantitative, Qualitative, and
Mixed Research) has been added.
• A new chapter on mixed research
(Chapter 14) has been added to reflect the growing importance of
this third major paradigm in educational research.
• Every chapter now opens with a vignette
that gains students’ attention and interest by providing them
with a connection between current events and issues in the world
of research.
• Review questions appear
at the end of major sections within each chapter, allowing students
to quiz themselves and review key concepts continually.
• New end-of-chapter materials have
been added, including discussion questions, additional
exercises, links to relevant websites, and suggested readings to
provide students more opportunities to extend learning and to apply
the lessons.
• Content-specific search terms
appear in the margins throughout the text and exercises appear at
the end of each chapter, prompting students to practice their research
skills using the powerful online research tool, Research Navigator.
• The latest changes to the APA Publication
Manual provide students with the most up-to-date information
about how to prepare a research report (Chapter 18).
• A special set of appendixes contains
abstracts of journal articles representing each of the research
approaches discussed in Educational Research, second edition: a
quantitative article, a qualitative article, and a mixed research
article. The full-length articles can be accessed on the Companion
Website for Educational Research, second edition, at http://www.ablongman.com/johnsonchristensen2e
