Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs that prepare students for jobs in many professional settings. Undergraduate students at the University of South Alabama can choose to major or minor in psychology. Students can also apply to the accelerated bachelor's to master's in psychology degree program, which allows students to earn a bachelor's and master's degree in five years. The department's graduate program offers a Master of Science in Psychology and Ph.D. in Clinical and Counseling Psychology. 

Through classes, as well as research opportunities and internships, students build skills to pursue careers in community agencies, health organizations, schools, and industry, as well as in traditional academic settings. The department also houses the USA Psychological Clinic, which serves as a training facility for graduate students enrolled in the Clinical and Counseling Ph.D. program. Students receive supervised experience while providing psychological services to the citizens of the Mobile area.

Exploring psychology, culture, and community across the world.
The Psychology Study Abroad Program offers students the opportunity to explore psychology within global cultural contexts while traveling and learning alongside faculty and peers.

Each program blends academic learning, cultural exploration, and real-world exposure to psychological practice and research in international settings. Students engage with universities, clinics, and community organizations while experiencing the history, culture, and everyday life of the host country.

Our programs are designed to help students understand how culture, health systems, and social context shape mental health, behavior, and well-being across the world.

Students return with a deeper understanding of psychology, expanded global perspective, and unforgettable experiences.

Department of Psychology
The Department of Psychology at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a non-tenure-track, 9-month, one-year-only Assistant Professor position to begin August 15, 2024. Applicants should possess an earned doctoral degree in Psychology, but ABD’s near completion of the degree will be considered. Applicants should also possess a strong commitment to teaching. The teaching load is four courses per semester, covering a variety of topics, with an emphasis in experimental courses. All specialty areas are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with experience and/or expertise in Introductory Psychology, Development, and Behavior Analysis.

Review of applications will begin June 10, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled.
