Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology web site. The department is entering a phase of rapid growth with the recent hiring of a new chairman and ongoing recruitment of several faculty members. Research in the department focuses on protein kinases and phosphatases in signal transduction, mechanisms of gene expression, lipid and polysaccharide metabolism.

Graduate students enroll in a multidisciplinary Basic Medical Sciences training program and postdoctoral fellows participate in departmental and College of Medicine training experiences. The close physical proximity and small size of the Department fosters extensive faculty-student interactions. Faculty members participate in an undergraduate research program, and host visiting scientists from the United States and other countries.
