Facilities
The Department is one of the five basic science departments in the College of Medicine and it occupies about 15,000 square feet in the Medical Sciences Building. The equipment within the Department is state-of-the art for research in cell biology and includes real-time PCR capability, fluorescence microscopy, scintillation counters, a phosphorimager, and electron microscopy. There is a high pressure liquid chromatography system, two complete electrophysiological recording systems, and numerous tissue culture facilites. Core facilities available to the Department include a full-scale proteomics facility, fluorescence activated cell sorting, confocal laser cytometry, oligonucleotide synthesis and analysis, and microarray technology. These Core facilities are located adjacent to the Medical Sciences Building. Also located in adjacent buildings are the Biomedical Library and the Vivarium.
