White Coat Ceremony – Class of 2009

Dr. John B. Bass, Distinguished Professor of Internal Medicine, was the invited speaker for the White Coat Ceremony. This event focuses on professionalism in medicine and is sponsored by the Medical Alumni Association and the Arnold Gold Foundation. Class president, Andrew Hodges, thanked attending faculty and guests for their support while they prepare for a profession in medicine.

Dr. O’Brien lead the class in the Medical Student Oath and each student received a white coat – marking the beginning of their clinical years. Dr. Ken Rettig introduced the newly elected members of the Gold Humanism Society: Dr. Charles Rodning (Professor and Chair, Surgery), Dr. William “Chip” Scott (surgery resident), Dr. Helen A. Skaggs (surgery resident), Dr. John C. Schultz (Internal Medicine). The following student inductees were elected by their classmates: E. William Brabston, Ben Davidson, Chrystal Giffis, T. Jake Lee, Jennifer Morrison, Scott Pfitzer, and William J. Terry, Jr.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the College of Medicine followed by a brief tour of the recently renovated sophomore auditorium and gross lab.
