BSN to DNP for Acute Care Cardiovascular
Nurse Practitioner Track
The Department of Health and Human Services has funded a proposal submitted by Dr. Kandy Smith for a post-baccalaureate Adult Acute Care Cardiovascular Doctorate of Nursing Practice program. This means that selected students will earn a DNP degree and prepare for a career as an Acute Care Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing has set a 2015 date for full implementation of the DNP as the entry level for advanced practice.
The requirements for admission include:
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and hold an unencumbered U.S. registered nurse license.
Admission decisions will be based on an evaluation of the following required information:
• Transcripts of all previous college studies
• Portfolio which evidences potential for scholarly work including a curriculum vitae/resume; sample evidence of leadership and scholarship; and written statement of career goals
Note: Your ability to progress in the curriculum is dependent upon you following the schedule. For example, some courses are only taught once each year and many others have pre-requisites. If you are unable to enroll as projected, contact the College of Nursing for a revised schedule (251) 445-9412.
