Dr.
Phillip Feldman
Director
Dr. Feldman is the Director of the South Alabama Research and Inservice
Center (SARIC). SARIC provides staff development for over 6,000
teachers of Southwest Alabama. Dr. Phillip Feldman is also the Principal
Investigator for the PT3 Implementation Project. He is a Professor
of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education and Director
of the Office of Field Services. |

Dr.
Mary Michael Campbell
Associate Director
Dr.
Campbell is responsible for the administration of the staff development
program which SARIC offers. A former elementary school teacher,
Dr. Campbell has over 28 years of experience in education. She is
a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Delta Kappa and the National
Staff Development Council. Dr. Campbell is the past president of
the Alabama Staff Development Council. |

Ms.
Brenda R. Chastain
Alabama Reading Initiative Reading Specialist for SARIC
Brenda
Chastain has been involved in education for 23 years. She is a past
elementary school teacher, counselor, administrator and has worked
in special education Ms. Chastain is a trained presenter for The
Alabama Reading Initiative and a presenter for the State Department
of Education on School Improvement Plans and Stanford-9. She is
a member of AEA, NEA, Alabama Reading Association, and the Baldwin
County Department of Human Resources Quality Assurance Team. |

Mr.
Mike Merold
Alabama Reading Initiative Reading Specialist for SARIC
Mike
Merold is the Secondary Regional Reading Coach for Southwest Alabama.
He works with teachers and reading coaches in twenty-seven secondary
schools that are Alabama Reading Initiative Literacy Demonstration
sites. Prior to becoming a reading coach, Mike spent sixteen years
teaching special education in Baldwin County.

Dr.
Bea Volkman
Alabama Reading Initiative Reading Specialist for SARIC
Dr.
Volkman is the SARIC Reading Coach responsible to the Alabama Reading
Initiative schools in the Washington, Clarke, Monroe, and Mobile
counties that are involved in President Bush's "No Child Left
Behind" program. After helping the districts develop and secure
grant proposals, she helps them to implement scientifically based
reading research programs in the targeted schools. Dr. Volkman brings
expertise to her position through experience in early childhood,
elementary, and special education and as a reading specialist in
private and public schools. Dr. Volkman was also a university professor
of elementary education. |
