Arts & Sciences College Scholarships
 
The number of scholarships awarded each year and the dollar amount for each scholarship may vary yearly depending on available funds.

Students are encouraged to check with the department of each scholarship for current availability.
 

Applications for each of these College of Arts and Sciences opportunities are available in the office of Academic Advising, AHS 345 and each departmental office. Unless otherwise indicated, scholarship application packets are due on the first Friday in April and submitted to the Office of the Dean, Academic Advising Office AHS 345.

 
Frederick Palmer Whiddon Liberal Arts Scholarship

Scholarships of up to $3,000 are available to students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences as a degree seeking student. Criteria for award of the scholarship shall include demonstrated leadership abilities and other commensurate abilities.

 
Earl P. Andrews Scholarship
Donated by the mother of Earl P. Andrews, this scholarship is dedicated to aiding disadvantaged students majoring in Arts and Sciences. Sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible for this scholarship. It will provide assistance up to $2,000 per year to the individual(s) chosen. Students must reapply each spring.
 
Albert Schweitzer Memorial Scholarship

Up to $2,500 will be awarded to a student with an Arts and Sciences major who has exemplified the humanitarian ideals of Albert Schweitzer through community service to the underserved. Sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible for this scholarship. Persons who received the award previously will be eligible to reapply, but eligibility will be based solely on the aforementioned criteria and should in no way be considered as a factor in determining eligibility.

 
Jack Edwards Scholarship
The Jack Edwards Scholarship is an opportunity for full-time Arts and Sciences students majoring in history, political science, or a related field of study. Up to three scholarships will be awarded for use in the forthcoming Fall Semester. The amount awarded will not exceed $1,725.
 
Caldwell Endowment
The Caldwell Endowment of up to $3,000 will be awarded for study abroad in the Summer of 2011 or Fall of 2011. Applications are available in Room 110 of the Humanities Building and must be submitted by the first Friday in April. Contact Dr. Susan McCready, Director of International Studies, Foreign Languages Department, for details and application.
 
James A. Yance Endowed Scholarship for Pre-Law Students
One scholarship of up to $1,000 is available to a student who has completed his/her sophomore year, and has a major interest in pre-law studies with the ambition of obtaining a law degree, and is an active participant in student activities at the University.
 
In the Spirit of Odyssey Scholarship
One cash scholarship of up to $500 will be awarded. The scholarship is open to any student in the College of Arts and Sciences who can display the importance of continuing education in their life, especially those who have returned to school after an absence of a year or more, or those who initially delayed higher education. Financial need is a consideration and the minimum GPA is 2.5. Application forms will be available in the Fall Semester and are due the first weekday in November.
