Web Services is a division of the Office of Public
Relations and is responsible for the design and maintenance
of the USA home pages on the University's main web server. For
many people, the USA home page and its associated web
pages are the first point of contact with the University.
The quality of electronic information published by USA
is important in maintaining the strong reputation and
image of the University. Information on the USA home
pages is subject to the same policies and standards
as print publications. The USA Web
Policies set minimal standards to ensure that information
published electronically is accurate, visually appealing,
clearly presented and follows the same high standards
as other forms of published information about the University.
The Web Services team is
responsible for the design and maintenance of the top-level
web pages that provide general information about the
University, index, directories, search engines, and
menu pages with links to departmental or organizational
unit pages. Web Services also designs and maintains
web sites for other USA organizations. Web Services
maintains the USA Web Server (www.southalabama.edu),
a Sun computer using the Solaris (UNIX) operating system,
that hosts many of the web sites of the University.
Web Services also maintains www3.southalabama.edu, a
Dell computer using the Windows 2003 operating system,
that hosts secure web sites and web sites requiring
Microsoft SQL Server. Click here for the operating environment of these web servers.
