How Can a Web Site be Added to the List of USA Web Sites?

Our department/student/group/organization would like to have a web site created.
Our department/student/group/organization has created its own web pages, but we need a server to host the site.
Our department/student/group/organization has created its own web pages on another server and requests a link(s) from the USA home page.
I have a personal home page that I would like to be accessible from the USA home page.
Our company has a web site that we would like linked to the USA home pages.

The USA E-mail Directory includes University E-mail addresses for faculty members, staff and students.  

... My grades for the last semester?

Student grades are available on the PAWS web site http://paws.southalabama.edu after the completion of final exams.

... Web Registration for credit courses?

Students can register for credit courses on the PAWS web site http://paws.southalabama.edu.

... Information about a College, School, Department or Organization at USA?

Many of the Colleges, Schools, Departments, Student and Faculty Organizations have web sites that are accessible through the USA web pages.  See the Schools, Colleges, Departments web page for USA Bulletin information and/or departmental home pages for academic departments.   See Administrative Departments web page for Administrative departmental home pages.  See Faculty/Student Organizations for Fraternities, Sororities and other student clubs and organizations.  Alternatively, you can use the Index or Search web pages to find a particular organization or information on a selected subject.

How Can a Web Site be Added to the List of USA Web Sites?

... Our department/student group/organization would like to have a web site created.

Web sites for USA academic and administrative department, student and faculty groups, and other organizations may be linked to the USA home pages.  The web site can be created by the organization, Web Services, or a third party.  If you would like for Web Services to create your web site, please call the USA Webmaster at (251) 460-7395.  If you already have a web site created or in the process of creating one, please see the Web Publishing Procedures

... Our department/student group/organization has created its own web pages, but we need a server to host the site.

Web Services maintains a UNIX-based Sun computer running the Netscape Enterprise Server software.  Any USA organization may have their web site hosted on the "USA Web Server" at no charge.  Please see the Web Publishing Procedures for instructions about setting up your web site.   Alternatively, there are a number of other web servers on campus that are dedicated for use by selected organizational units.  If you are part of one of these organizations, then you may want to have your web site hosted by the organizational web server.  Personal pages for faculty members are permitted on the USA Web Server.   Personal pages for staff and students are not permitted on the USA Web Server.  Organizational web servers may allow personal pages for faculty, staff and students at the discretion of the appropriate webmaster.

Web sites for USA academic and administrative department, student and faculty groups, and other organizations running on a server other than the USA Web Server may be linked to the USA home pages.  Please E-mail the USA Webmaster with the URL of the home page.   However, the web site will still have to meet the requirements for publication as stated in the Web Publishing Policies.   If there are problems with the web site, the USA Webmaster will notify the organization webmaster via E-mail and request the appropriate additions, changes or deletions.  Once the changes have been made, the web site will be linked to the USA home page in several locations.

Personal pages for faculty members are permitted on the USA Web Server.  Personal pages for staff and students are not permitted on the USA Web Server.  There are a number of other web servers on campus that are dedicated for use by selected organizational units. Organizational web servers may allow personal pages for faculty, staff and students at the discretion of the appropriate webmaster.

If your company has a web site that you feel is relevant to the mission of the University,  please E-mail the USA Webmaster with the URL of the web site and any other pertinent information.  If the web site is primarily concerned with marketing a product, it is likely that a link will be declined.  If the web site is primarily for research or reference, then it may be linked at the discretion of the USA Webmaster.

What Do I Do When ...?

... I select a link on a USA web page and it doesn't work?

If you notice a problem such as a broken link or a missing graphic, please notify by E-mail the webmaster listed on the home page of the organizational unit in question.   Please specify the URL of the web page where the problem is located in the E-mail message.  Each organizational unit must have a webmaster listed on the home page of their web site.

... Information about me or my department/organization is incorrect or out of date?

If you notice incorrect information or information that is out of date, please notify by E-mail the webmaster listed on the home page of the organizational unit in question.  Each organizational unit must have a webmaster listed on the home page of their web site.

... I would like a custom URL address for my web site, such as www.myname.org?

Custom URL addresses (i.e. domain names other than southalabama.edu or usouthal.edu) such as www.myname.org are not encouraged for USA organization web sites.  The preferred URL format is www.southalabama.edu/myname.  This policy insures that a strong relationship between the organization and the University is maintained.  This is beneficial to both organizations.  On occasion, it may be desirable and beneficial to the University for a custom domain name for a particular web site.  If you feel this is the situation, please E-mail the USA WebmasterInterNIC Registration Services maintains a list of all assigned domain names for the world.  Please determine if the requested domain name if available with InterNIC before contacting the USA Webmaster. Remember to enter only the last two components of the URL, i.e. myname.org not www.myname.org when checking availability.

... I try to FTP my web files to the USA Web Server but I am denied permission?

Your account is not authorized to write to, or delete from the selected directory on the USA Web Server.  Make sure you have selected the correct remote directory. Your account may have been deleted or someone else may now be the authorized web master for that directory.  Please E-mail the USA Webmaster.

... My E-mail account information is wrong or I can't access my E-mail?

The USA Webmaster does not setup or maintain E-mail accounts and E-mail directories.   The USA E-mail Directory for faculty, staff and students is maintained by the Academic Computing section of the Computer Services Center.  If you have questions about your USA E-mail account please contact the appropriate group below:

How Do I Get ...?

... A student E-mail (Jaguar1) account?

To setup a Jaguar1 E-mail account you must be be enrolled in a course at the University of South Alabama.  You can request your E-mail account online at https://jaguar1.usouthal.edu .
You will need your Student Number and Social Security Number to create an account.

Any additional questions should be directed to Academic Computing (Computer Services Center, rooms 202-209, (251) 460-6161) during regular working hours (M-F 8am - 5pm except 12 - 1pm).

You can download new versions of free browsers and other software applications from the Download Software page.
