Center for Academic Service-Learning and Civic Engagement
"The Center for Academic Service-Learning and Civic Engagement is dedicated to getting students involved with the community, providing plenty of service opportunities and giving back to the community."
What is CASLCE?
The Center for Academic Service-Learning and Civic Engagement strives to be a source for getting students involved throughout the community via a variety of service learning activities. Some of these activities have included the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Higher Education Day, and One Day Without Shoes. CASLCE's goal is to get students to get involved in the community and to provide students with an experience that is not necessarily found within the classroom setting.
Service Learning and Civic Engagement
Service Learning is way to provide students with opportunities to use their skills to provide positive change to a community. Service learning can be used to supplement traditional teaching environments in order to provide an environment where students are able to see where the community would need their skills the most and how their skills can impact the community at large. We do this by setting up events where students are able to participate and get involved.
Civic Engagement is another means of getting students involved. Civic engagement involves raising awareness and identifying issues that can impact the community. Civic engagement is about seeing what issues effect the community the most and what can be do to solve these problems. Our goal is to get students involved in civic engagement and show students the issues that are effecting the community.
