Tenure Track Assistant Professor Position

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position for the 2013-2014 academic year (starting date: August 15, 2013). Candidates must earn a Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or in a closely related area by the time of appointment. Faculty responsibilities include effective classroom teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, developing curricula and laboratories, supervising graduate students’ research, publishing refereed journal articles, and developing and maintaining an externally funded research program.

The ECE student body consists of about 400 undergraduate and graduate students. The ECE faculty strives to provide the highest quality educational experience to our students. Recently, we revamped our undergraduate and graduate curricula, and upgraded our instructional laboratories with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. In addition to BS degrees in electrical engineering and computer engineering, the graduate school offers the MS degree in electrical engineering and the D.Sc. degree in systems engineering. The ECE Department just moved to a brand new 155,000 sq. ft. facility, Shelby Hall, with state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories.

The ECE faculty is pursuing an aggressive funded research program. Recent sponsors of ECE research projects include the National Science Foundation, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Department of Energy and British Petroleum. About 25% of ECE faculty members are Fellows of their respective professional societies.

Preference will be given to candidates in the general area of Electrical and Computer Engineering with specialization in computer architecture, communications, signal and image processing, and electromagnetics. Candidates with outstanding credentials in other areas of specialization will also be considered. Candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered for the newly created Warren Nicholson Endowed Chair in Computer Engineering.

Interested candidates should submit a letter stating their areas of specialization, current curriculum vitae, a list of at least three references, and official transcripts of their BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees to:
